Inktober 2024

Yes, it’s that time of year again, October! This can mean only one thing, well, more than one thing, but the main one for me at the moment is that I am about to embark on my 3rd Inktober month-long daily drawing event in the month of October.

It is the 4th such endeavour if you include the first month-long daily drawing challenge that I completed in 2020, which was set by Broad Canvas, the city centre art shop in Oxford. Picking up my pen to do that first prompt on October 2020 was the one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I stopped doing the weekly Inktober prompts in April because I competed the task I set myself of completing the whole of 2023 (I actually did a drawing every week from start of November 2022 to April 2024) but I see the month long challenge (and it is challenging!) as a way to push on with ideas and create a new body of work.

I have the prompt list for about 4 weeks. I abandoned my original idea/theme as the new prompts didn’t really fit with my plans, but I will be revisiting that at some point as I was looking forward to it, but it was a bit too complicated for this, going back and forward in time and involving objects and insects, it was very ‘me’.

There is a distinct travel vibe about this year’s prompts, but I have a theme of my own and will be doing my best not to follow the theme that has been presented.

Wish me luck! If you see me towards the end of October I might be slightly distracted and dishevelled!
