about

I am an artist/illustrator and I live in Oxford.

The portfolio headings at the top of my website contain work that I feel represent where I am now. Most of them contain illustrations from the last couple of years, with some older work in the art:projects portfolio. I have a retrospective section which you can access here. This has a selection of my papier maché work, older illustration work and sketches.

I have always loved keeping sketchbooks and they are a really important part of my artistic world, either documenting my life or sketching places I visit. I have in-situ sketchbooks, sketchbook journals, ideas sketchbooks and sketchbooks for ink work and other media.

After many years, I have stopped making things from papier maché. I started an adult education college course in ceramics in January 2023 as that was my first love and I still feel the need to make things. It may just be for fun, or it may lead somewhere else: it will become clear over time.

I have a BA Hons degree in Graphics and Illustration from Canterbury Art College which I attended from 1986-1989.

I worked as an illustrator in a packaging design company from 1996-2005 and also as a freelance illustrator from 2005-2013. I did a wide variety of work in that time, from educational illustrations, logos and branding for small businesses, promotional calendars and illustrated books for children about migratory birds for Natural England.

In 1990 I started creating animals and quirky objects from paper mache and I have also undertaken commissions and sold my art at art/craft fairs in Oxfordshire, London and Yorkshire amongst other places. From 1990 - 1995 I sold my papier maché work in a concession in Harvey Nichols in London and one of my creations was used to advertise the homeware/gift department on the side of the Routemaster buses on the run up to Christmas 1994. . I sold large papier maché animals and my Birds on Biscuits range with a gallery at the London Affordable Art Fair in Battersea from 2008-2015.

I stopped freelance illustration in 2013 when my daughter started primary school. I worked with a company which provided after-school art clubs in primary schools from 2013-2016. I taught the after school art club once a week for them in a primary school in North Oxford for two and a half years and also worked at that time for their holiday clubs as part of the team.

I started working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in a primary school in Oxford in 2016. It is a job I find really rewarding, and I especially enjoy it when I get to teach the art and design tech lessons when the teacher is out planning the lessons one afternoon a week, this is something I would like to continue and perhaps develop.

I have continued making art in this time: selling my work at a couple of craft fairs a year, doing commissions when possible and always developing my drawing and painting skills in my sketchbook journals. I hope to attend more art markets through out the year as I produce more work and develop my style.

I have a link to my instagram account, which I use to post some of my new work and interests, and a link to my Facebook ART site which has an archive of previous work and art/craft fairs I have attended.

My shop section is now live and is linked/syched to my Etsy shop.

I hope you enjoy looking at my work and if you would like to know more then please email me.
